Prof. Friedman is a world known expert in onco-genetics with more than 20 years of experience in treatment, research, teaching and oncogenetic counseling.
Prof. Friedman is an expert in internal medicine and medical genetics. The founder of the Onco-genetics Unit at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, and its administration since April 1995. As part of the management of the Onco-genetics Unit, Prof. Friedman has established the onco-genetic counseling process, implemented the latest technologies to detect the most common and least frequent mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes in Israel and help women carriers to focus their treatment. Since its founding, the unit has consulted about 19,000 consultants and consultants, and more than 17,000 have performed genetic testing on the background to cancer.
Prof. Freedman is the chairman of the BRCA Association (non-profit organization), which is designed to provide information and support to women carriers of mutations in the BRCA1 BRCA2 genes. He is also one of the leaders of the Israeli Consortium for Breast Cancer, under the auspices of the Israel Cancer Association.
Prof. Friedman is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University (MD) and a graduate of the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. He is a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. He is currently studying the inherited tendency to develop cancer and has published more than 300 articles in this field and other areas of research.
Prof. Friedmann worked at the National Institutes of Research in Batesa, Maryland, for 4,5 years as a postdoctoral fellow at the NIDDK Division and was a associate professor at the Endocrine Unit at the Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, Houston.
He is a member of the Israeli Medical Association, the American Society of Endocrinology, the American Society of Human Genetics and the American Society for Cancer Research.
